Getting ready for Christmas-two weeks worth of letters

December 15, 2014
My week was good! We still don´t have a new bishop, but hope that we will get one soon. Tomorrow we will have our Ward Christmas Party, I am really looking forward to that. I can´t wait to talk to you guys, that will be fun and special. Also this week we are going to have a party with all of the missionaries in the Baja California and President and Hermana Velez, I am really excited and happy to go! I can´t believe that it is already Christmas Time, time is going extremely fast. There were a lot of transfers in the Mission, the majority of our Zone stayed the same only two missionaries left the zone. I am still with my companion Elder Cano. He is going to finish his mission with me! I have never killed a missionary(had a companion who finished his mission with me) before. That should be fun! A lot of awesome members and investigadors are not going to be here during Christmas and New Year, I am kind of sad that we are going to be left with a lot fewer people to visit, but that gives us no excuse whatsoever to not continue to work as hard. We are going to find a lot of people to teach this Christmas and bring them the Gospel, what greater gift could anyone want! I am excited and ready to do all that I can to do the Will of my Heavenly Father. Thanks for the letter and for your support that you have given me throughout my Mission. You are the best, and I love you so much! Take care and have a wonderful week!

Love,

Elder Cannon

This week we also had our Ward Party and there was a good turnout of investigators and less active members! It was really fun! A really cool experience was that a young investigator accompanied us for almost a day.  He was excited and it surprised the members that he was not a member, that was a really special experience for my Merry Christmas.  I love you guys so much and I am excited to talk to you guys! Is it okay for you guys at 5 pm on Christmas Day to Skype?

Christmas Devotional

We did get to watch the Christmas Devotional.  It was really special!  This week was a good one.  The Ward is a little disorganized, because the Bishop has been living in Mexico City for 2 months since the Hurricanes hit.  He came back this week and announced that he is moving to Monterrey. We technically don´t have a Bishop, but as soon as we get everything worked and organized then everything will be fine, but as of now no one does Home Teaching.
That sounds like you guys had an awesome Christmas Party,  and I am really glad that you guys gave a lot of service, that is the Spirit of Christmas.  We are practicing our singing abilities in the Zone, because we are going to sing to President Velez and to his wife. Everyone is excited for Christmas!  A returned missionary gave me a shirt that says Los Cabos and a Christmas Tie.    Twice this week I ran into some tourists from Utah that were really nice and gave us a little bit of money.  My companion was a little sick this week.  He is very anti doctor, he hates Doctors.  We got him checked and he is feeling a lot better, but we weren´t able to do a whole lot this week.  This week we are going to do a lot and are going to work extremely hard. Thank you so much for the pictures and for the letter, have a Merry Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here are Elder Cannon's letters and pictures from the past couple weeks.

November 24, 2014
I can´t believe that it is snowing there.   I can´t even imagine what snow looks like.   My week was a really awesome week. I got the package from Grandma and the package from you guys also. I loved the packages they made me feel so special and loved. I have the best family in the world. I loved everything in the packages and so did the Zone! The picture is of my District Leader, Elder Reese and of a future missionary Kathia(she helped us a lot while I was in Mazatlan), she put in her papers. We had a Multi Zone Conference.   I met a lot of missionaries because I have never been the La Baja California, it was a very special Conference with the Spirit very strong. This week we didn´t have quite as much time to work in the field.   I didn´t realize how many things a Zone Leader has to do, but it has taught me to serve and love the missionaries in the Zone. We were blessed in this week with success and we have to keep working hard and find those who are ready to accept the Gospel and that need it. Thanks for all of your support and love that you have given me, I feel so blessed to be a part of this family and for all of your love and support that you have given me! Have a great week!

December 1, 2014
This week we worked extremely hard and found some new people to teach. On Thanksgiving, a returned missionary bought us Tacos! On Tuesday I cooked potatoes, pudding, rolls and we fed the Zone with the food that Grandma Robinette sent me in her package! Everyone loved it, the Americans were super excited, and the Mexicans were happy! We also had a Zone Meeting on Saturday! It was the first Zone Meeting that me or my companion had ever given.  It was really awesome and we excited all of our missionaries to work hard. The topic was on HE IS THE GIFT, we are excited for this program and we hope it brings great results. I brought the Christmas tree and decorated it, everyone loved it and are really excited for Christmas! Thank you so much for the Christmas package. I am so happy for Jacob and that he was able to receive his patriarcal blessing, that is so awesome. Tell him congratulations, and to obey and do all that he can in order to win and earn the blessings that he is promised. I cannot believe that it is already December.  Time goes by way too fast.  This transfer is only five weeks long, then the next transfer will be 7 weeks. We are already over half way done with this transfer. I am glad to hear that everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving, and that everyone is happy! Have a great Week, love life and take advantage of every day!  Love, Elder Cannon

I love the Mission!

Los Cabos is a cool area.  It has a lot more money than Villa Union. I don´t want to buy anything because everything is so expensive. It reminds a lot of the United States. I definitely feel a lot more pressure as a Zone Leader, but I know that it will help me to push myself to be a better missionary. It is a lot to take in, but I know that it will help me grow and progress. We are working very hard Elder Cano and I! The best thing happened, Saturday night.  I received a call from Villa Union.  It was Alicia(the investigador that Elder Tapia and I taught).  She had just gotten baptized and she expressed how happy she was and how grateful she was that we helped her come to know the Gospel.  She also asked when I was coming back. It was a very special experience for me.  A spirit of peace entered into my heart. I love the Mission for the experiences that happen, even though I wasn´t able to attend the baptism, it was special being a part of her conversion process! It is so good to hear from you guys, I wish you the best, I miss you guys and I know that the Lord is blessing and protecting you guys. Have a great WEEK! I love you guys so much!

Transfer to Los Cabos (San Lucas)

We had a really good amount of investigadors attend the stake conference.  The speaker was a Seventy whose name is Moroni(I don´t remember his last name).  He spoke with so much power.  He is like a mexican version of Elder Holland. Villa Union should be having a baptism next week.  I would love to be there, but I know that God needs me here.  The transfers came in and I am going to Los Cabos(San Lucas) as a Zone Leader! My companion´s name is Elder Cano.  He is really cool.  He is from Pachuca. There were a few problems in the past transfer, Elder Cano became Zone Leader for the last two weeks of the last transfer. He doesn´t know the area that well.  He has been a Zone Leader for two weeks, we are both brand new Zone Leaders.   I feel like we will learn and grow a lot together. We got on a bus at 10 pm, we arrived at Culiacan at about 1:30 am, we woke up at 5 am to get ready for our flight that left at 7 am. Our flight arrived to La Paz, then we got on a bus for 2 hours to arrive to San Lucas. I am pretty exhausted and I will sleep like a baby this night.

I am going to miss Villa Union a lot.  I love the people here, but I know that I need to move on and there are other people that I need to help. It was so hard to say good bye to all of the members, converts, and investigadors. I was crying a little bit.  That is the hardest part of the Mission, leaving your area. It was so hard seeing others bawling because I was leaving.  It touched my heart so strongly that this is where God needs me to be. Our area seems like it is struggling a lot, we have a lot to do here and I am pumped to get her done in this Ward so that the Work will grow.

Day of the Dead

That sounds like you guys had a fun Halloween, and that Isaac and his friends got scared pretty good. My week went really well! On the day of the dead our whole zone went to the cemetary to contact for a few hours! It went very well and it was successful! The attendance this Sunday was 49! Our investigador Ronaldo got baptized this Friday, I was  so happy for him, he looked so happy on Sunday when he got confirmed, and looked really cute with his white shirt and tie. The weather is finally started to cool down a little bit and it feels so much better. This transfer went by so fast, in one more week it is over. I would love to stay another transfer, but I feel like I am shipping out, but I hope not. Next week we will have a stake conference, we are all excited for that! Life is really good right now, I couldn´t ask for anything more. Life is a Happy Song! I love the people here in Villa Union, it is the saddest thought ever of having to leave them some day. There are so friendly and kind. Have a great week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I want for Christmas

I got the Halloween package it was really awesome and I loved it! Thanks for the package.  This week was good, but it was a little hard, because a lot of our investigadors that we hoped would go to church didn`t go. But the good news is that we should have some baptisms coming up this week in the District! I am really excited for the future and to do God`s Will.

(Answer to the question: "what should we send you for christmas?") You could send me some more pictures of the family, you could send some snow down for Christmas! Just kidding, I hope that the weather cools down just a tad bit more. Everythings good, we are excited to work and bring others to come unto Christ. My companion Elder Tapia can`t believe how fast time goes by, we are already half way done with this transfer. It is so weird being one of the older missionaries in the Mission. We are having fun and working hard, thanks for all of your love and support.

The weather is still hot!

Happy Birthday MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I am doing great.  The weather is still really really hot! Everyone was saying that it would cool down in Octuber, but the heat is still really strong. Now the people are saying that at the end of November or in the beggining of December that it will start to cool down. Some say that it will not ever get cold. That`s fine, I´ll get used to it. This week was a really good week, I convinced one of our investigador`s to share her testimony on Sunday.  It was really special, and she is very prepared and excited for her baptism. We had our Zone Meeting this week.  It was really special.  At the end of it everyone came up and told me that I was gong to be Zone Leader, I thought that was funny, but none of that matters.  I am just happy and grateful for the opportunity to serve God. That new movie looks so good.  I really want to see it.   I heard that all of the missionaries in the United States have to watch the movie to be able to answer investigadors doubts or questions about the movie. I am pumped to Preach the Gospel and to work extremely hard. I am really excited for the what the future has in store! Thanks for the letter, and for all of the love and support that you have given me on my Mission. I love you Mom, you are the best, you were always such a great example to me. I hope that you have a great birthday and a great week, don`t forget how much that I love you!

Conference

This week was really awesome.  General Conference was really special. For the Saturday Session  we watched it in English in the Tassainers house, they even fed us. They are so nice and help us so much in the Branch. We had a decent amount of members, converts, and investigadors attend the conference. It was so special for our investigadors they absorbed it and loved it.  They said that they haven`t seen or felt anything like that in any other church. That strengthened my testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only true church, and that we are led by prophets and apostles: General Conference seems to get better every year and it seems to end quicker and quicker. All of the missionaries that I saw at the Conference told me that they wanted to go to Villa Union, which is funny because Elder Tassainer said that no one wanted to go to Villa Union, it was a very hard area. I got to meet a lot of the members of my old ward in Jabalies, Mazatlan.  They sure seemed excited and I was happy to hear that the ward is doing really good. On Friday I officially completed 1 year and a half on my Mission, 6 more months and then I am going home. It just hit me hard, that I was no longer going to have a name badge or be a full time missionary in just 6 months! I will make the best out of these six months and I will return with honor, but that is still a long ways away. Thanks all of your love and support that you have given me and for your great example. I love you guys!

Three Baptisms in a Row

September 22, 2014
This week was a really special week! We have an investigador who has been taught by the missionaries for well over a year.  She goes to church every other two weeks. When we first met her, she was really closed, shy, and didn`t say very much at all.  She would tell us that she would prepare to get baptized just to keep us content, but she never read the Book of Mormon. She always thought that this church was just another religion and nothing else. She came back from Culiacan this week, she read a lot of the Book of Mormon and prayed to God. She has an excellent testimony of the Gospel and was so anxious to get baptized. My testimony about the Book of Mormon has grown so much.  It is the proof that this Church is true, everything depends on that Book. It changed her life. She is so happy and participates and tells jokes.  It really touched my heart to see how the Gospel changed her life.  Elder Tapia baptized Blanca.  It was a really special baptism, she bore such a pure testimony and expressed how happy that she was. I confirmed her as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! These experiences I will never forget and I hold very dear to me. I love the Mission! It has brought me more joy than any other thing in this world. Next week we have another baptism planned, and then we will have transfers. I always want to stay and  I am excited to see what happens. To answer your question, almost all of the members walk, because they don`t have cars. Some of the other members take about a 10 to 15 minute bus to get to church, and it is a hard sacrifice to make because they make hardly any money. We haven`t seen that much rain, but in Los Cabos there is a lot of rain and I heard that that part of the mission won`t have transfers.  It is dangerous down there.  I heard that it is kind of hard for the missionaries down there. Today we went down to the Tassainers house as a District Activity to play golf and have fun before the transfers, we sure did have a blast. Thanks for the letter and keep moving forward!

September 29, 2014
This week was really awesome for us! We had a lot of success, 50 people went to church, 7 investigadors were there. We had a baptism, it was of Azucena(daughter of Rosalia), it was really special. Azucena progressed so fast in the gospel.  She payed her tithing even before we taught her about it. In the baptism we had a special musical number, Elder Tapia played the piano and I sang in the micro phone(it was the spanish version of Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing).  Everyone really liked it and some members told me that they were about to cry. It was really fun.   I feel like I have really improved my singing talents in the Mission.  It felt really good to sing in front of a lot of people. I was so happy for Azucena and her decision to get baptized.  It was really special and the Spirit was strongly present. Life is perfect because I am going to stay another transfer in Villa Union! Two other Elders in my District had 2 baptisms this past week! I was really happy about all that we were able to accomplish and for all of the success that we had in this transfer. I have never baptized three weeks in a row before, but I loved it! We hope that the success continues this next transfer and to continue to help the Branch to grow! My Mission has completely changed my life.  I love it.  In Octubre I will have 18 months on my Mission! That is so crazy! I love the Mission, I love the people, and I love this Gospel! My testimony has grown so much since the time that I started my Mission. Have a great week, I love you guys!

More rain and baptism

Thanks for the letter, we had a really good week. It has been raining a little bit.  We have kept working, but if they tell us we have to stay in the house then we will do it. Israel, the son of Rosalia(who got baptized three weeks ago) got baptized this Saturday! It was a really special baptism and a lot of people went to go see it. It was really powerful to hear his mother Rosalia testify and express how happy she is for her son. Elder Tapia baptized him. We have been having a lot of really spritual experiences. We found a new investigador who went to church all by herself, and told us that she wants us to teach her. Her boyfriend is an ex-missionary.  She is 20 years old and he is 31! Her boyfriend talked to me on the phone and he told me to do my best and that his exaltation was in my hands.  I thought that was so funny. This persona is called Alicia.  She is really bright and learns really fast.  God is blessing us so much and has helped us to find His children who are ready to accept the Gospel. It sounds like everything is going good back home, I wish the best for you guys and hope that you have a great week. I love you!

Rainy

The weather this week did cool down.   In the beginning of the week it did rain.   For a few hours we couldn´t leave our house because of the rain.  That sounds like a fun missionary activity that you guys had. This week we had divisiones with my old companion from Rosario(Elder Hernandez), it was so awesome to be together with him again.  He kept telling me that he cannot believe how much that I have changed on my Mission. This week was honestly a hard one for us.  We worked really hard and found a lot of new people to teach, but nobody went to church. I was a little disappointed, but I am really motivated to get them to church next week. We have got a baptism for every Saturday for the next three weeks lined up.  We hope and pray that all goes to plan and that we can follow through and get her done. My District is working really hard and I am really proud of them! I cannot believe how fast this transfer went by.  Three more weeks and then it is finished.   I really enjoy training, and I hope that I stay with my companion for another transfer, but we will see what happens! Have a fantastic week!

Meet my companion

Thanks for the letter, it was really nice to hear that everyone is doing great back home. This week was a superb week, we had a lot of success! Rosalia who just got baptized, went to the temple this week end.  I know that it was such a great experience for her. Elder Tassainer was able to be baptized for Rosalia`s son that died. This gospel is so wonderful and it is perfect. Rosalia and her sister Marisol shared their testimonies and experience in the temple, it was so special to hear that. It touched my heart! We worked and worked with the members, that is the only way to have success is through the members. Not just to have a little success, but to have a lot of success! I actually really like training.  It helps if you have a good companion. My companion is the son of a Stake President. He is really bright and I am trying to do all that I can to help him to be the greatest missionary, a lot better than I am. Life is perfect, we are seeing a lot of miracles.  I am so pumped to work! Thanks for the letter.  Have a great week! I love you!

Here are some  pictures from our baptism last week.
Many of these people are from the  family Aragon.  and several are investigators.

Your son, Elder Cannon, is an excellent teacher, and hard worker.  His humility and love of the Mexican people and other missionaries make him an outstanding missionary .

First week as a trainer

This week was so awesome, our investigador Rosalia got baptized. It was such a special baptism, Rosalia testimony made me cry.  It was so special. I baptized her and then yesterday Elder Tapia confirmed her as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Next Saturday she is going to the temple to do baptisms for the dead with her sister (a convert who got baptized one year and a half ago). It is fun training.  I feel pressure and I feel like I need to be and do my very best, it pushes me to be better. Elder Tapia is a great companion and a great missionary.  He knows English really well and he has taught me a lot. What this Branch really needs are Priesthood Holders.  We are getting a decent amount of people to go to church, but they are all women who don`t have husbands. Right now my camera doesn`t want to send pictures, I`ll try to get the Tassainers to send pictures of the baptism to you.  I love being a missionary.  I love this Gospel.  I have changed and learned so much here in Mexico.  I just wish that time would slow down a little bit.  Thanks for the letter and for being my parents, and for raising me in the Gospel.  Without I wouldn`t be here!

 Love, Elder Cannon

Stayed in Villa Union

I AM GOING TO TRAIN! I am so pumped! My hijo(son`s) name is Elder Tapia.  He is from Monterrey Mexico. He is a stud, he isn`t afraid to talk to people, is very intelligent, and speaks English really well.  I am really excited.  I can`t believe that Jacob is going to be a senior.  That is insane everyone is growing up. That is hilarious that Dad read the little a`s and little b`s.  How often are you guys reading the scriptures as a family? What page are you guys at? I got the package that you guys sent me.  My companion Elder Rock went to La Paz, in Los Cabos California.  He got on his flight today.   I know that this is going to stretch me.  It`s is going to be very good for me and I am ready to hit the ground running. I`ll let you know how it goes. Have a great week and take care!

Love Elder Cannon

P.S. Received another message and photos from Senior Missionary Couple.

Elder Cannon survived the transfers.  He is still with us here in Villa Union.  We are very happy because he is such a humble hard- working Elder.  Right now we have quite a few investigators .  💖. Bro and Sis Tassainer

Two letters from Villa Union

August 4, 2014

It sounds like everyone is doing good back home.  Yesterday I officially have 16 months on my Mission. It is so crazy and time goes by way too fast. Some of the members tease me a little saying that I don`t have a whole lot of time left, but I still have a good 8 months left! We are still doing really well in our area, we might have some baptisms at the end of the transfer and in the beginning of the next one. I really hope that I stay in this area.  I want to help the Branch, and I want to stay in my area for a while. It is starting to get really hot and humid down here.  We sweat quite a bit, but that doesn't stop us. The Youth went to EFY for the week.  They returned as spiritual beasts.  They were so different.   We wet with all of the youth on Wednesday to preach the gospel. They participated a lot.  They were just on fire. It was a really neat experience.  Thanks for the letter and Have a great week!

August 11, 2014

My week was really awesome in Villa Union.  We are having a ton of success! We had 11 investigators go to church, it seems there are almost more investigadors than members going to church.  We need to really work with some of the members to get them active. I met a returned missionary(Justin Nelson) who was in Villa Union for a transfer.  He came back to visit his old area.  He is from Shelley Idaho and said that Peter Cannon gave him his patriarchal blessing, that was so awesome. Everything is continuing to click for us.   I really hope that they don´t take me out of here.  I don´t want to leave this area, I want to continue helping the Branch, and then sooner than later get a stake! This is the last week of the transfer, so I will let you know what happens. Los Tassainers went down to Rosario, it sounds like the Branch is really struggling.  They gave me a letter from my first convert.  She moved to Tijuana, but she is doing really well, and she is getting excited to go on a Mission. Life is really good.  Have a Great Week, and GET HER DONE!

Villa Union

Yes, we felt a lot better this week and we had excellent week. We are getting her done in Villa Union! On Saturday we had a baptism! His name is Luis.  He has been preparing for a long time to get baptized.  His wife is a member. It wasn't easy for him and he has changed a lot. After his baptism he kept saying , "I'm clean,  I'm clean."  Luis shared his testimony at the end.  It was so powerful;  he thanked his mom and sisters(who aren't members) for coming, he thanked us because we kept pushing and pushing for him to be able to be baptized. It was an experience that touched me hard and at the end there was not a dry eye in the church. He is now confirmed a member of the church and we are going to get him to prepare to receive the priesthood.

It is starting to get really hot and we are sweating a lot. Today my companion and I went to the Estrella de mar, it is where the senior couple live. I played golf for the first time in my entire life.  It is hard!  I tried hitting it properly but then I just socked it like a baseball bat and it went a lot further and was a lot more effective. It is one of the prettiest golf courses, a lot of Palm trees, it is really close to the beach, the scenery was amazing, Dad you would have loved it. We are working really hard, it makes you really tired but it is worth every second!

P.S. from Denise
Here is a letter and picture we received this week from the only Senior Missionary couple serving in Ryan's mission.

Hello Cannons,
My name is Hermana Tassainer.  My husband, Elder Tassainer, are serving as senior missionaries in Villa Union.  We are the ONLY senior missionaries in this mission.  We have had the privilege of working with your son Elder Cannon.  He is a dedicated, hard-working missionary who you can be very proud of.  He sure has a handle on the language and also knows his scriptures.  Good job parents.

San Francisquito

This week was one of the best weeks of my life, it was insane and I still can`t believe all that happened. One Family(familia Aragon) had a lot of references for us in a little town that had never heard the gospel. I went with Elder Tassainer to meet and teach these references. We taught three lessons, there were quite a few people that heard us teach! We started the first lesson, in the distance we saw a man watching us, we went over invited him in the lesson. He loved it and told me afterwards that we should gather about 50-60 people and then teach them. I will never forget that day, the Spirit was so strong in all of the lessons (the testimonies of the members were very strong). In church we had 10 investigadors, and 8 less active members! In total there were 53 people in church, that is a record! The Branch President had a meeting on Sunday Morning so I was the Branch President for the first half hour. I felt kind of weird conducting the church meeting, but it went well. We are so pumped to preach the gospel, all of our success is coming from this one family. They are really working with us, when we put appointments with them they invite friends and have great lessons with them. My companion and I got a little sick this week, but God blessed us and is helping a ton. There is no way we could be doing this without him. Elder Farias returned to Jabalies to train a missionary from Argentina! Now it is just Elder Rock and I.  I haven`t gotten the package yet, but I am sure that it is on its way. I am a believer of Miracles, I love the Gospel and I love Preaching the Gospel. I am starting to get old, but I am taking advantage of every day that I have got left. Thanks for the letter, have a splendid week!

Love Elder Cannon

P.S. The little town that we went to and had a ton of success is called San Francisquito!

The person sitting next to me while we are eating is Luis, he is getting baptized this Saturday. We intervewed him last night and he is so ready! His wife is a member and Luis has been hearing the missionaries for a while, he just received his answer from God and he is getting baptized.

Three Amigos

(Forgive me once again for doubling up--We were gone to a family reunion and then girls camp, so here are Elder Cannon's last two posts)

July 7, 2014

The new house is awesome.  I love the air conditioning. On Friday I received a phone call from the Assistant's of the President while we were eating. He told me, hey Elder Cannon how you are doing? I said I am doing really good. He asked me how our week went? I told him that it went really well, we are finding new investigators, the members are helping us a lot. He said good, we are going to close your area for one transfer. Noooooooo. What happened is that I was going to train a new missionary from another country(U.S., Peru, they didn`t tell me from where), but his Visa didn`t arrive in time and he couldn`t come. I am going with my companion Elder Farias to Villa Union, it is a branch in Mazatlan. I am still going to be in the same zone, but it was really hard saying good bye to the members.  They couldn`t believe that I only was there for one transfer.  It is hard leaving areas, but it is necessary and God needs me in Villa Union. I am going to be in a trio, it is Elder Farias, Elder Rock, and I! I have never had a companionship of three, it is going to be interesting. Elder Rock is from Ogden Utah.  He has nine months on his mission, is really nice and focused on the work and I am excited to work with him. I am going to miss my District so much.  It was such a great District, one of my favorites.  I am really excited to work in this new branch, because I know that there is a lot to do and we are going to help this Branch to grow! That was my week. Have a great week, and remember that I love you!

July 14, 2014
My week was good.  It is a little different having two companions.  We get along well.  It is just that we feel it is kind of  a waste of a missionary, because there is one extra, but we are working hard. Elder Farias and I gave really awesome talks on Sunday. A funny story, one of the contacts we made in the street thought that I was from Mexico because of my accent, that made me feel really good about my Spanish. I want to keep learning languages when I get back from my Mission. We are in a new house, it is a fairly nice house. The Family Reunion sounded way awesome and I wish that I could have been there. I loved the pictures they are so funny. This Branch reminds me a lot of Rosario, and there is a lot to do. The Branch President doesn`t have any counselors and we need to activate and really help this Branch grow. Some of the members are really nice and want to help, but a lot of them seem a little more laid back and need to get fired up and get to work. This week we have had some really awesome spiritual experiences and some great lessons. A lot more people came to church than the last week, that is good. I have absolutely loved my study from Jesus the Christ, I have learned a ton and it is really interesting.   I am on page 430 and it is hard to stop reading. I love the Gospel, I love this Branch and the members in it. I am ready to go to work and truly help the branch grow. Thanks for the letter and the pictures, it made me happy to see that everyone is all happy.

Robbed....but moving onward

How in the world did you know that we got robbed? That is so crazy.  I didn´t want you to know about it, but now you know. We got robbed last Saturday night.  The miracle is that we didn`t wake up while they were robbing us, and they didn`t do anything to us. The night that they robbed us, I did a ton of exercise and was so tired and went into a very deep sleep and slept like a baby. It was a miracle.  Don`t worry about me, everything is fine.  I am safe and God will protect me.  We believe the robbers came in through a small window that is high and kind of small because we had everything shut and locked.   They took our speakers, hair trimmers and shavers, all cash, my camera with all my pictures, watches, cameras, ipod, memory cards, wallets, the mission cell phone and dvd player and even took my name tags.  They pretty much left us with very little.   To tell you the truth this is the second time we have had a robbery in this house.   The first time they broke in when we were having our District Meeting.  We returned home to find some things missing and they broke the door handle.  I had to climb on the roof and open the back door with the key.   We have been kind of homeless for the past two weeks.  We have slept in the house of the Zone Leaders and they have helped us out.  It was a little hard that they took all of our stuff, but in the end none of this stuff matters and are worldly things.  Today we moved into our new house.  It looks really nice and it has running water!  The best thing about it is that it has an air conditioner!  Elder Farias and I are really excited to try it out.

We had a really good week.  We were invited to a funeral and went to the burial of a Sister Beltran in the church. A lot of people went to the funeral.  It touched my heart very deeply.  At the burial we(the six missionaries) sang a few songs for Sister Beltran and it was really special. All of the sons of Sister Beltran are returned missionaries.  They are helping us out and are really special.

The missionary work is going well.   Two of the sister missionaries Sister Ramirez and Sister Wallace had two baptisms this week.   I was really happy and proud of them. The other sister missionaries also will have baptisms coming up this week! We are all really excited to work and to get her done.

Thanks for all of the love and support that you have given me, I´ll keep working dang hard!

Two weeks of updates

(Sorry I'm a little behind in the blogging--we were gone on trek)

June 16, 2014

This week was really awesome, Jose Maria got baptized. A lot of the members went to the baptism.  The talks were amazing, the missionaries(us) sang a musical number. I was really happy for Jose Maria, he has made a lot of changes in his life and is going to be a great member. I felt the Spirit so strongly in the baptism, his parents are not members, but they loved the church, the baptism, and the members in the ward. I love the Gospel! We went to see the beach and hike a great big hill called Faro. It was a lot of fun and we actually saw another District up there.  The beach was so beautiful, I was living it up down there. We woke up early in the morning and went with two members of our ward to go hike the Faro, it reminded me of when I went on hikes with Dad or with the Elwood Gang. I was a little tired after the hike.  It was really good exercise.  I bought shark teeth for about 3 dollars, I love how cheap everything is. It was a great experience and the scenery was amazing. Everything is good here in Mazatlan. I couldn`t ask for anything more in life. I am really grateful for my Mission and for everything that it has taught me. Have a great week.

June 23, 2014
Mom, you need to cancel my credit card from home, I lost my wallet and my camera. I am going to have to buy another camera, all of my pictures lost, but I am still happy. It was kind of hard losing those things, but God nevertheless blessed us this week. This week went really well, we had a lot of success, and we are working hard! We got permission to look for another house from President Velez.  I am really excited to change houses. We had a lot of investigators come to church, and I am excited to continue teaching them. It sounds like you guys had quite the Trek experience.  I am sure it was a great experience, but it looks really cold.  I could not handle that weather.  I think that I would die in the cold weather. This week was a very good week for us, we should be seeing some baptisms in the District this next week! We are very excited for that, Thanks for all of the love and support that you have given me on my Mission Have a great week and remember how much I love you!

Stake Conference

This week went really well. We also had stake conference. We started working really well with the members and I am making some strong friendships in the ward. President and Sister Velez came and spoke in the Stake Conference and then after the conference President Velez interviewed all of the missionaries. The first time that President Velez interviewed me I had about 4 or 5 months in the mission, he told me that I spoke spanish very well for the time that I had on the mission, I told him that I feel like I lack something and I don´t know what it is.  He smiled and said you need to be a leader. One or two transfers after that he put me in as a District Leader. This interview was a lot more serious.  He asked me when was the last time you baptized someone? When is your next baptism? Are you being an example for your companion and your District? He asked about the four sister missionaries in my District.  This interview was a little more demanding and I felt a lot more responsibility and pressure. We were able to bring five investigators and one less active member to the conference.  It was really special. I recieved the package and I love the ties and the pants and the baptismal tie. It came just in time as well, because this Saturday our investigator Jose Maria is going to get baptized and he wants me to baptize him. He is really prepared and has changed a lot.  We helped him stop smoking and he was a completely different person before he knew the Gospel. I love how the Gospel changes the lives of those who let it. My District is also having a lot of sucess and we should be seing some baptisms from the sister missionaries coming up really soon.  On Friday, Sister Wallace and I taught English to the people, a decent amount of people showed up and it was pretty fun. It reminded me of when I was first learning Spanish, oh good times. We also received a new bishop, I am really excited to work with him and to get to know him better. This week went really well and I hope we continue to have success. Thanks a lot for the package! Have a great week, I love you!

I love Mazatlan

My companion is great, and I really like Mazatlan. Culiacan was so hot, but here in Mazatlan it is a lot cooler, but it is really humid, I sweat a ton. The people are a lot nicer and more receptive to the Gospel in Mazatlan! Our church is really really pretty, it even has a water fountain.  It is such a beautiful church. In my District it is me and my companion and four sister missionaries. The Mission President is starting to give me a little more responsibility. The sister missionaries are way awesome! I really like having sister missionaries in my District, everything is just better. In the District Meetings there is a lot of participation, the Meetings are more spiritual, it is just better. I forgot my cable, I will send pictures of our District next week. I haven´t received the package, but it should come soon. I can´t believe how different Mazatlan is from Culiacan.  I miss the people in culiacan, but I really love the area in mazatlan. In our area there are only five members, it is kind of small. We started getting the members from the areas to preach with us, it has been really awesome working with them. Everything is good here in Mazatlan,  don´t worry about me, all is well!

Transfer to Mazatlan

I am getting transfered to Mazatlan! It was the hardest thing in the world to say good bye to the members in Nueva Galicia and Huertas, I am not going to lie I was crying. It is just that I have been here for 7 1/2 months.  That is a very long time and I got to really love the people. When the members of Huertas heard that I was heading out, they couldn`t believe it, they told me you just barely got here and you are heading out. The Bishop was joking around, he told me that he was going to talk to my Mission President so that I would stay longer. I told the Bishop, don`t worry another American is going to come in my place, he told me, but this American isn`t you, we want you! It made me feel really special. We worked really hard in the last week and had a decent amount of success. It was so hard to leave.  It felt like I was just starting life all over again. Right now I am in my new area. The ward has six missionaries in it. Two Elders and four sister Missionaries are in the ward and in my District. Our area is kind of far away from the church, and there are only five members in our area. We are going to have to work dang hard and I am up for the challenge. I am really excited for this change it is going to be really good for me. In my area it isn`t quite as hot as Culiacan, but it is very humid, I am sweating a lot. The houses are a lot smaller, the people are poor but they seem really nice. There are cows, animals, it reminds me of Rosario. My new companion is called Elder Farias, he is from Mexico City, he has three months on his Mission. He is really nice, humble, we are going to get along just great. Our house isn`t the greatest.  The water doesn`t work.  In the morning and the day we have to fill up buckets of water and bathe ourselves. It is really hot in the house.  It is small, but it is really cheap. I think that we are going to look for another house. Don`t worry about me, everything is fine here, and I promise that I will do my best.  I hope the best for you, I love you so much, thanks for the letter!

Marriage and Baptisms

This week was one of the greatest weeks of my life.  It was so awesome. On Wednesday I had divisions with Elder Perez in my District and we had an amazing day! I returned to my old area and we went to town. In the morning we were invited to be witnesses at the wedding of Carlos and Ana.  They are the family that Elder Porter and I taught.  We also invited the sister missionaries.  It was a really special wedding. Before the wedding I was talking to Ana.  I asked her if she received her answer from God that the Book of Mormon is true.  She told me "yes I know." She  reads a lot and is already in the Book of Alma. I was so happy for this family.

We also found new investigators, we taught really powerfully and 3 people accepted baptismal dates.

On Friday Carlos, Ana, and Carlo all got baptized. It was a very special baptism, and I am not going to lie,  I was crying a little bit. My joy is overwhelming for this family and I wrote them a very powerful letter.  They were so happy and felt the Spirit very strongly. Elder Perez baptized Carlos, Elder Porter baptized Ana, I baptized the son Carlo. On Saturday we had a baptism in our area of Abel. It was also a very special baptism and I was so happy for him. When he told us that he prayed and asked God if he should be baptized, he felt as if God was there with him and that he should get baptized. This week was a week of pure power and one of the greatest weeks of my life. My happiness is full and I thank my Heavenly Father every day for all that he has done for me. This is the last week of transfers. I am excited to see what is to come. I want to help save as many souls as I possibly can. I want every family to be eternal and to be sealed together forever.  I love seeing families getting baptized.  There is no joy greater than being a missionary. I can`t wait to see what God has in store for me and I wish the best for you guys.

Happy Mother's Day

That was so awesome to talk to all of you guys Everything is different. A lot has changed in the past year. I am glad that you had a great mothers day. Everyone is getting old, and my brothers are starting to get a little focused on girls. I felt really special getting to see all of you guys and I miss you. But I know that I am supposed to be here and that God has everything planned out for me, I can`t wait to see what he has got in store for me. I feel like my life couldn`t get better.  I am happy!  I have started to understand the importance of time, of why we are here, and what God really wants from me. This week it is possible that we are going to see some baptisms. We are going to have one baptism. Elder Porter and Elder Perez are going to baptize a family of 3, that Elder Porter and I found and taught. I feel really blessed to be able to see these baptisms and to see the fruits of our efforts. A lot of the times when we leave our areas, we don`t see that what we did really mattered or that we had success in our area. I am happy, there is no other place I would rather be than here in Culiacan.  I love my Mission and I love doing what I do. I want to be a missionary forever. I don`t want to end.  I still lack a long time before I go home, so I don`t think a whole lot about that. I need to take advantage of this precious time that I have left and get her done. Have a great Week! Happy Mothers Day, I love you so much.  I don`t know who I would be if I didn`t have you as my Mother, you are the perfect example and I look up to you alot. Talk to you next week!

Talk to you Sunday

I will be Skyping this Sunday.  It is only for an hour but I am excited to see all of you guys. This week was actually a good week for us.  It isn`t the easiest thing to open an area, but we are starting to progress. I think that pretty soon I will be able to see baptisms of the family that Elder Porter and I found.  I would be so happy to see them getting baptized they are so special. There are so many good things about the mission. I love the work, I love being a missionary, I love the people. I have actually started doing a lot of excercise in the mornings and in the nights. I feel a lot better. I feel a lot healthier. I talk to you this Sunday, have a great week and remember that I love you!

Birthday celebration

I am doing really good.  My Birthday was really awesome. Missionaries gave me ties, President and Hermana Velez sang Happy Birthday and congratulated me in English, Members gave me cake or congratulated me. In church a lot of the members of Nueva Galicia also told me Happy Birthday.   I don`t know how they knew it was my Birthday but it really did make me feel special. I can`t wait to meet my new cousin Wyatt he looks like a great little baby. We are going to have some awesome Birthday parties when I get back. Speaking of getting back tomorrow I will exactly have one year until I go home. I cannot believe that I have been on a mission for a year.  It has been the greatest thing for me.  It has taught me and changed me a lot. We had a seminary training with President Velez, his wife, and all of the Leaders of the Mission.  It was a great training session and I learned a lot. His wife made us very delicious tacos.  I was grateful that I was able to attend. We are still getting to know the members of the ward and are doing all that we can so that they Preach the Gospel and help us in this work. One of our investigators speaks really good English.  H is really nice, humble, and lived in Utah for a few months, but he never heard about the church until he came to Culiacan. He has been to church about 5 times and he has a baptism set for the 10th of May.  I am really excited for him. We are trying hard to find New Investigators because we don`t have very many people to teach.  The work is hard but rewarding. I love this work and I know that God put me in this ward to strenghten it and to help it grow. I hope all is well back home.  Have a great week.

New Area and Companion

This week was actually kind of hard for us because for almost all of the week everyone left their homes and traveled. A lot of people went to the beach, a lot of them went to visit their families. There was hardly anyone in the street and everyone that we saw or found were really old people. My new companion Elder Garibay is from Michoacan and is a really great missionary.  He has six months in his mission and we are going to work really hard together. He is a convert.  He barely has three years since he was baptized.  His hope is that for him being here his family is going to accept the Gospel. I was able to see the baptism of an old investigator (Beatrice) that we taught in Nueva Galicia, she is such a great person and I was so happy to be able to watch her being baptized. President and Hermana Velez came to the baptism and it was really a special moment for everyone. I made some trades with other missionaries and I now have a Canon camera. I really like it.  It isn`t the newest or anything, but it does have some neat effects. All of the missionaries in our ward gave talks.  I felt so good and am really excited to get the members excited about Preaching the Gospel. On Sunday I was able to talk to a lot of the members of Nueva Galicia.  They made me so happy and I am so grateful to still keep in contact with everyone I know in my old ward.   Even though this week was a little hard, there were a lot of blessings and I couldn`t ask for anything more. I was talking to my convert Humberto, he said that he really wants to get to know Utah and to see the Salt Lake Temple, and he wants to get know my parents.  I said that he is welcome in my house and that it would be awesome to have him there.  Maybe we will have guests in a few years.  You have to get to know his family. They are so special and I will never forget them. Humberto is working really hard with the missionaries and he is really courageous and bold to talk to less actives and ask them why they don`t go to church, and encourging them to go, he gets it done.   I feel so happy and blessed to have been able to teach him and watch how much he has progressed in the Gospel. This Gospel brings so many blessings and miracles, I can`t even begin to express the happiness that it has brought me.  This work isn`t easy, but it is worth everything and it means everything to me. I can`t believe that I am going to be 20 years old.  I think that next Tuesday after the District Meeting we are going to have a little party with birthday cake. I don`t feel that old.  I feel like I am changing a lot, but I still feel really young. Thanks for your letter, I talk to you guys next week, bye!

Surgery and Baptism

This week we saw a miracle.  Elder Porter had his surgery on Tuesday at 6 am.  We left the hospital at about 4 pm. We were there almost all day.  The doctor said that Elder Porter had to stay in the house all day for one week, he couldn`t leave the house. The operation went well, but his nose didn`t feel so good for a while. I have such a great District.  Just about every day they would come to my house and one of them would stay with Elder Porter in the house and the other companion would work with me. During the divisions I planned on contacting a reference that I received from another Elder. We went, found the family, taught the family, and baptized the family; they were so ready and excited to be baptized. She lived in Tijuana.  She has gone to church a lot of times, the missionaries kept trying to baptize her.  She wanted to get baptized where she was born in Culiacàn. She finally accepted to get baptized in Tijuana, she had the baptismal interview and passed it, then she suddenly left to Culiacan.  A week and a half later we found her. We contacted her on Wednesday, taught her on Thursday, had the baptismal interview on Friday, got baptized on Saturday, was confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and received the Holy Ghost on Sunday. It all seemed so fast, she was so ready and so excited, she got baptized with her son and her daughter. Elder Porter baptized the mother Fernanda. I baptized the daughter Daniela. Elder Martinez(was with me on divisions when we contacted the family) baptized the son Edgar. I was so happy for this family, my joy was overwhelming! I could not believe it! The baptism was very special and I will always cherish this experience.

The transfers came in and I am leaving Nueva Galicia. I will be going to the ward Huertas, it is right next to my area.  We even use the same church. I told everyone that I am heading out.  Everyone said, "Nooooooo, you can`t leave."  They got pretty emotional.  They asked me where I was going.  I said I am going to Huertas.  They all laughed really hard and said "we will see you on Sunday."  I already know a few of the members in Huertas and I am excited to go to work. I am going to open a new area, there are now going to be 4 missionaries in Huertas. I have never opened an area before.  I have learned so much on my mission about trying things that I have never done before.  I will get to know my new companion today.  His name is Elder Garabay and he has six months on his mission. My testimony has definitely increased from this experience.  My love for the work has grown and my excitement to serve. Thanks for all of your love and support.  I will have Elder Porter send me pictures of the baptism so that I can send them to you guys. I am going to miss Elder Porter.  He is a really good missionary.  He is still going to be in my District. I love you guys, have a great week!

Conference Weekend

General Conference was so awesome.  They just keep getting better and better and end quicker and quicker. We missed the very first session because we were in the hospital.  This Tuesday at 6 in the morning we are going to the hospital and they are going to operate on Elder Porter.  We are really excited that they are finally going to operate on him. We had a good week, but we were a little occupied with doctor stuff. After the surgery and when he recuperates we are going to work so hard, becuase it might be my very last week in the ward.  It is so crazy, I can´t believe that I have been here for six months. I have one year on my mission! I am getting old. I thought that I was going home the 16 of March, Elder Hurt(was in my District in the MTC) told me that our missions are extended until the 29 of April 2015.   I was so happy. I felt a little sad, because I thought that I had less than a year on my mission, but right now I am so happy that it was extended. I received the birthday package and I loved it, it made me really happy. That picture holder looks really awesome, and that colored pencil is really awesome. In our next District Meeting we are going to celebrate my one year mark and last District Meeting together by eating  the twinkies you sent and having fun. Don´t worry we will have the Meeting, and then afterwards we will celebrate. I wonder what the transfers are going to be like, they are going to be interesting! I learned a lot this week and am loving my mission. I know that this church is true and that it is guided by Thomas S. Monson and his Apostles and I am so grateful for them. Have a fantastic week and don´t sleep during the Restoration.  Preach the Gospel to everyone. If you do so, I promise that you will receive more blessings than you can imagine and you will draw closer to God. Trust in God and in his plan. We don´t understand everything that God does for us, we need to be grateful with what we have and press forward, with a whole lot of Faith, that everything will work out just fine! I also recomend that you study Preach My Gospel daily and if you do your desire share the Gospel will increase and you will have oportunities to do it. Just Do It!

One year

am so excited for General Conference.  I cannot believe that it has already been six months and I am really excited to see what God tells us in the conference. That is a great idea to help people study their scriptures, I am going to have to do it when I get home from my mission. This week I am going to fulfill one year on my mission.  I feel happy and different.  I am half way done! I know that once time starts dwindling down there is no way that I am going to want to go home. But I am going to have to do it. It is going to be so weird to see how much that everyone has changed and to be in a different country. Mexico is so much different from the United States.  Everything is a lot easier in the United States. Is is true that a lot of the missionaries in the United States have iPads to Preach the Gospel? I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church and that it can change our lives, only if we want and allow it to. I have truly changed, and I will keep changing. I can not express all of the blessings that I have received on my mission and all of the help that God has given me, and how much he is willing to help us if we allow him to.  I still remember when I was really new when I first entered the field, I had no idea what I was doing. I have come a really long way since then.Wow, it seems just like yesterday.

Jacob is going to turn 17 years old!  holy mackerel I flat out cannot believe it. That is so crazy, I remember when he had just turned 16 and now he is already 17 years old.  Jacob will do great working at JC´s. That is really awesome that Joey and Haley are sealed in the temple.

This week the new family that we found went to church and I am really happy for them. They are progresing a lot and even though I won´t be around when they get baptized I was really happy to be able to teach them. They are so special and so ready to accept the gospel. We have had Family Home Evening´s, they have invited us to eat dinner with them, we have a great bond with them. The work has gotten a lot better and my district is starting to get a good amount of success. I am really excited to be here and I can´t believe that in two weeks we are going to have transfers. I am going to have six months in Nueva Galicia, I am going to have one year of my mission in only two areas, that is pretty insane. Thanks for your letter and for all of the support that you have given me while I have been on my mission. Talk to you next week.

Work Hard

This week my companion Elder Porter went to the hospital to get a cat scan of his nose. Sometime in the future he is going to have a surgery. He is fine, just that sometimes he is in a little bit of pain. Elder Porter has been a really awesome companion and has taught me a lot.  We get a long really well and are great friends.

We worked but this week we didn´t have quite as much time to work, but this week we are going to work very hard. I cannot believe that on April 3, I am going to have one year on my mission and I am going to turn 20 years old. It is so crazy, and I cannot believe that it is going to happen. This transfer has gone by so fast, this transfer is already half way done.

I have learned a lot on my mission, before my mission I was so lazy, I felt like I didn´t do hardly anything. I feel like I am starting to become a Doer, and to get things done. When I get home the last thing I want to do is sit on the couch, watch a lot of movies, and be really lazy. I need to kick myself in to gear and work !When I get back from my mission, I want to help the missionaries a lot, and reactive every less active member in the ward. Thanks for everything that you have taught me and for the example that you set for me.   I love you, and hope that all is well back home!

Miracle

This week we truly saw a miracle. On Tuesday Elder Fonseca (was my zone leader, but now is an Assistant to the president) invited me to a baptism and told me to bring an investigador. I couldn`t think of anyone, but I was dedicated to find someone to invite. We have been working very hard with the members to receive references because we need more people to teach. One kid that is 11 years old gave us a reference to contact. We contacted the family and they we taught them a small lesson about the family.  They liked it a lot and they felt the Spirit. We invited them to the baptism and they accepted. It was very spiritual and it excited them to be baptized. They asked what time church started at and we said that we would pass by their house to bring them to church, and they were excited to go. On Sunday morning they weren`t at their house. I`m not sure why they couldn`t come to church, but this experience strengthened my testimony that when we are diligent even though it looks there is no one progressing, God will lead us to His children who are prepared to be baptized. I was thinking of who I was before my mission and realized all that I have changed. I am way different than when I started my mission.  Holy cow, I have changed a lot and I know that I will continue to change. Have a great week!

P.s. An answer to his dads email question about what kind of food he cooks on his mission:

I haven`t cooked a whole lot, but I have helped people cook. There really isn`t very much for us to cook. We eat at the houses of members every day for lunch.  Sometimes they also invite us for dinner. I am starting to slim down quite a bit, I am a lot thinner than I was before my mission, and didn`t realize that I had that much weight to lose.

Sister missionaries in our area

I am doing really good.  My District is having and will have a lot of success in this transfer. Having Sister Missionaries has been a lot of fun.  We have been teaching them the area. This past District Meeting was one of the best meetings I have conducted.  I think that it is because the Hermanas participate a little bit more than the Elders. They are fantastic missionaries.  One of them is from Uruguay and is almost my height, and the other is from Mexico City. After this transfer I am going to have 6 months as a District Leader.  I have learned so much and have enjoyed it a lot. Quite a few people told me that they were really glad that I would stay in the ward a little bit longer. Right now we are struggling a little bit in our area.  We are on the hunt for the chosen people that God has been preparing for us. I love my mission. God has taught me a lot. I have started to understand the attributes of Faith and Humility. I feel like I have changed a lot, and I am going to keep changing. I have started to lose a decent amount of weight.  I look quite a bit thinner than when I started my mission. All is well here in Mexico, take care, and tell Daniel Happy Birthday! You are always in my prayers.
