First week as a trainer

This week was so awesome, our investigador Rosalia got baptized. It was such a special baptism, Rosalia testimony made me cry.  It was so special. I baptized her and then yesterday Elder Tapia confirmed her as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Next Saturday she is going to the temple to do baptisms for the dead with her sister (a convert who got baptized one year and a half ago). It is fun training.  I feel pressure and I feel like I need to be and do my very best, it pushes me to be better. Elder Tapia is a great companion and a great missionary.  He knows English really well and he has taught me a lot. What this Branch really needs are Priesthood Holders.  We are getting a decent amount of people to go to church, but they are all women who don`t have husbands. Right now my camera doesn`t want to send pictures, I`ll try to get the Tassainers to send pictures of the baptism to you.  I love being a missionary.  I love this Gospel.  I have changed and learned so much here in Mexico.  I just wish that time would slow down a little bit.  Thanks for the letter and for being my parents, and for raising me in the Gospel.  Without I wouldn`t be here!

 Love, Elder Cannon

Stayed in Villa Union

I AM GOING TO TRAIN! I am so pumped! My hijo(son`s) name is Elder Tapia.  He is from Monterrey Mexico. He is a stud, he isn`t afraid to talk to people, is very intelligent, and speaks English really well.  I am really excited.  I can`t believe that Jacob is going to be a senior.  That is insane everyone is growing up. That is hilarious that Dad read the little a`s and little b`s.  How often are you guys reading the scriptures as a family? What page are you guys at? I got the package that you guys sent me.  My companion Elder Rock went to La Paz, in Los Cabos California.  He got on his flight today.   I know that this is going to stretch me.  It`s is going to be very good for me and I am ready to hit the ground running. I`ll let you know how it goes. Have a great week and take care!

Elder Cannon survived the transfers.  He is still with us here in Villa Union.  We are very happy because he is such a humble hard- working Elder.  Right now we have quite a few investigators .  đź’–. Bro and Sis Tassainer

Two letters from Villa Union

August 4, 2014

It sounds like everyone is doing good back home.  Yesterday I officially have 16 months on my Mission. It is so crazy and time goes by way too fast. Some of the members tease me a little saying that I don`t have a whole lot of time left, but I still have a good 8 months left! We are still doing really well in our area, we might have some baptisms at the end of the transfer and in the beginning of the next one. I really hope that I stay in this area.  I want to help the Branch, and I want to stay in my area for a while. It is starting to get really hot and humid down here.  We sweat quite a bit, but that doesn't stop us. The Youth went to EFY for the week.  They returned as spiritual beasts.  They were so different.   We wet with all of the youth on Wednesday to preach the gospel. They participated a lot.  They were just on fire. It was a really neat experience.  Thanks for the letter and Have a great week!

August 11, 2014

My week was really awesome in Villa Union.  We are having a ton of success! We had 11 investigators go to church, it seems there are almost more investigadors than members going to church.  We need to really work with some of the members to get them active. I met a returned missionary(Justin Nelson) who was in Villa Union for a transfer.  He came back to visit his old area.  He is from Shelley Idaho and said that Peter Cannon gave him his patriarchal blessing, that was so awesome. Everything is continuing to click for us.   I really hope that they don´t take me out of here.  I don´t want to leave this area, I want to continue helping the Branch, and then sooner than later get a stake! This is the last week of the transfer, so I will let you know what happens. Los Tassainers went down to Rosario, it sounds like the Branch is really struggling.  They gave me a letter from my first convert.  She moved to Tijuana, but she is doing really well, and she is getting excited to go on a Mission. Life is really good.  Have a Great Week, and GET HER DONE!

Villa Union

Yes, we felt a lot better this week and we had excellent week. We are getting her done in Villa Union! On Saturday we had a baptism! His name is Luis.  He has been preparing for a long time to get baptized.  His wife is a member. It wasn't easy for him and he has changed a lot. After his baptism he kept saying , "I'm clean,  I'm clean."  Luis shared his testimony at the end.  It was so powerful;  he thanked his mom and sisters(who aren't members) for coming, he thanked us because we kept pushing and pushing for him to be able to be baptized. It was an experience that touched me hard and at the end there was not a dry eye in the church. He is now confirmed a member of the church and we are going to get him to prepare to receive the priesthood.

It is starting to get really hot and we are sweating a lot. Today my companion and I went to the Estrella de mar, it is where the senior couple live. I played golf for the first time in my entire life.  It is hard!  I tried hitting it properly but then I just socked it like a baseball bat and it went a lot further and was a lot more effective. It is one of the prettiest golf courses, a lot of Palm trees, it is really close to the beach, the scenery was amazing, Dad you would have loved it. We are working really hard, it makes you really tired but it is worth every second!

Here is a letter and picture we received this week from the only Senior Missionary couple serving in Ryan's mission.

Hello Cannons,
My name is Hermana Tassainer.  My husband, Elder Tassainer, are serving as senior missionaries in Villa Union.  We are the ONLY senior missionaries in this mission.  We have had the privilege of working with your son Elder Cannon.  He is a dedicated, hard-working missionary who you can be very proud of.  He sure has a handle on the language and also knows his scriptures.  Good job parents.
